Rangers - Partizan 1:0

Rangers stretched their unbeaten run in Europe to 12 games with a 1-0 victory over Partizan Belgrade. Rangers entered the match top of Group A looking to take a point which would ensure a favorable draw in the 2nd round of the UEFA Cup. With Sundays Old Firm Derby looming and his captain already on a booking in the competition, gaffer Paul Le Guen left in-form midfielder Barry Ferguson off the squad.

Ibrox favourite Dado Prso found himself on the bench alongside Jeremy Clement and Libor Sionko. Le Guens counterpart Miodrag Jesic, similarly mired in a poor domestic campaign, brought a young Partizan team to Ibrox playing for pride as they are already out of Europe. As part of a Yugoslavia side which lost 6-1 in a friendly for Rangers great Davie Cooper, Jesic was hoping to return to Serbia with nicer memories of Glasgow before heading into the Serbian Leagues winter break.

Partizan striker Nenad Mirosavljevic missed a great opportunity to give the visitors a dream start after 7 minutes when defender Ibrahim Hemdani made a mistake on the ball. Disappointing signing Filip Sebo started up front with Nacho Novo for Rangers but it was Gavin Rae who came closest to scoring in the first half with an effort off the post in the 18th minute. A scrappy half ended with Rangers the more likely of the two to break the deadlock.

Allan Hutton put Rangers ahead after 55 minutes with a lovely header courtesy of a Nacho Novo free kick. From a half chance Partizan nearly answered the Hutton goal when midfielder Ivan Tomic fired on keeper Allan McGregor. Likely to play a role in the match with Celtic on Sunday, Le Guen brought on Libor Sionko for Novo at the 64th minute.

The visitors troubled the Rangers defense in the 79th minute when Mirosavljevic fed Ljubisa Vukelja but the Partizan player missed a sitter from eight yards out. After a minute of extra time, referee Ruud Bossen blew the whistle sending Partizan back to Serbia with 1 point from 4 games while Rangers go into Fridays UEFA draw as one of the top seeds from the remaining 32 teams.

1:0 Mirosavljevic 71'
1:1 Amelija 87'

Partizan Belgrade opened the group stage campaign with a solid performance against Livorno but late goal from visitor's goalkeeper Amelia denied the Serbian hosts an opening win in UEFA Cup Group A.

It had been a positive start to the match by the Serbian side.
Mirosavljevic missed a great chance to open the scoring when he sent in a shot from the penalty area just wide.

The second half followed a similar pattern to the opening 45 minutes with Partizan Belgrade continued to push forward.

Partizan were 1-0 up on 71 minutes, when Mirosavljevic sent the ball into the bottom left corner from 10 meters out.

Then out of nothing, Livorno earned a share when Amelia scored the goal - just three minutes before end .
